Chandrodaya Gowri Vrat is the festival ascribed to Sri Gowri Devi, one of the manifestations of Sri Parvathi Devi. In Tamil regions, it occurs on the Krishna Paksha Trithiya of Purattasi month. For the Year 2023, it occurs on Sunday, 1st October 2023. The exact duration of the Trithiya Tithi has to be ascertained from the respective regional calendars.
The festival is observed by worshipping Sri Gowri Devi at the place where the rays of the rising moon fall in the house. The time of moon rise may differ from region to region.
At the worship place, rangolis are drawn and decked up. A Kalash holding water is kept and is tied up with mango leaves. A coconut is kept atop the Kalash. The idol / picture of Sri Gowri Devi is kept at the place. Lamps and incense sticks are lit. The place is decked up with flowers. Chandan, Kumkum and Turmeric are applied on the Kalash as well as Deities.
After Ganesha Vandanam, Sri Gowri Devi is invoked through Slokams and prayer hymns. Then archana is done to Sri Gowri Devi. Neiedyam of sweets and fruits is offered to the Deities and distributed to the devotees as prasadam.
It is believed that sincere and ardent observation of this Vrat results in alleviation of worries and sadness, removal of obstacles, fulfillment of the wishes and the improvement in the living conditions. It is also believed that the negative thoughts in the mind shall wither away with the observation of this Vrat.
