Amirtha Lakshmi Vrat is the festival ascribed to the worship of Sri Maha Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. It occurs on the Shukla Paksha Dwithiya of Ashada month. The ensuing Vrat day occurs on Sunday, 7th July 2024.
The exact duration of the Dwithiya Tithi has to be ascertained from the respective regional calendars.
Devotees of Sri Mahalakshmi rise early in the morning and take holy bath. The house and Puja place at the house are cleaned. The Vigraha or picture of Sri Lakshmi Devi is decked up with flowers. Oil lamps and incense sticks are lit. Sri Lakshmi Devi is worshipped with Kumkum, Chandan and flowers.
Some devotees observe fasting from sunrise to sunset on this day. The Slokams / Stotrams in praise of Sri Mahalakshmi are recited and chanted.
It is consider auspicious to donate food, money and clothing to the poor and needy on this day. It is believed that observing of this Vrat shall result in the bestowing and blessing of peace and prosperity.
