Chamunda Hills is situated at Dewas, near Indore at Madhya Pradesh. A temple dedicated to Sri Chamunda Matha is situated here. The word ‘’Dewas’’ denotes that it is the residing place of Deities.
At the Chamunda Hill, there are Shrines for Devi Sri Tulja Bhavani, Sri Chamunda Mata and Sri Kalika Mata. The Temples are referred as ‘’Tekri’’.
The temple can be reached either through rope way or through stairs.
The first Mandir to be visited on alighting from rope car is the shrine of Sri Tulja Bhavani.
Sri Bhavani is depicted as a wall sculpture and She is of orange red colour.
Devotees offer coconut, yellow flowers, sacred cloth, sugar balls and sweet to Sri Bhavani Devi. Aarti is done to Sri Bhavani Devi at periodical intervals. Devotees are offered Kumkum, flowers and segar balls as prasad. Witnessing the Aarti is a divine experience.
After having the darshan we have to take a pathway which is adorned with small shrines dedicated to Sri Anjaneya, Sri Shiv and Sri Annapurna Devi.
On turning the corner, we are blessed with the sight of Sri Chamunda Devi. Sri Chamunda Devi is depicted in the standing position as a wall sculpture. She looks mesmerizing with decked up garlands.
Periodical Aarti is done to Sri Chamunda Devi. The Shrine can be reached by mounting a few steps. Some devotees climb the steps through their knees as part of their prayer.
At the premises of Sri Chamunda Devi Shrine, there is a cave like structure which has the shrines of Sri Shiv and Sri Shani. For this also, a few steps are to be taken.
If the devotees take the stairs, the shrine of Sri Chamunda Devi appears first.
During all the Navarathra periods, special pujas are done to the Deities.
Near the rope way, we can see a Jain temple as well.
The visit to the Chamunda Hills provides peace of mind, divine spirituality and other virtuous benefits. From Indore, buses are available to Dewas.
