Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ashtakam

Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ashtakam is the composition as prayer to and in praise of Sri Raja Rajeshwari Devi, the incarnation of Goddess Parvathi. It is believed to be composed by Sri Adi Sankaracharya.

Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ashtakam contains eight stanzas each describing the attributes of Sri Parvathi Devi. This Slokam is also called as Sri Amba Ashtakam.

The benefits of chanting this Slokam is provided at the end.

-is Shambhavi, the benevolent (being the consort of Shambhu, Lord Shiva);
-adorns moon on Her head;
-is the distinct woman;
-is Uma, the tranquil;
-is Parvathi, the daughter of Parvatha Raja, the king of mountains;
-is Kaali, the Goddess of time;
-is golden;
-is the consort of Lord Shiva;
-has three eyes;
-is Katyayani, the Goddess of victory;
-is Bhairavi, the Goddess with Dog as Her vehicle;
-is Savitri, the ray of light;
-is eternally young;
-is auspiciousness personified; and
-provides wealth to the Kingdoms.

-is the ruler of the three worlds (earth, heaven and paataal);
-bestows blissfulness;

-holds tender leaves in Her hand;
-loves the music of flute;
-is auspicious;
-has the face which glitters like moon rays; and
-is the destroyer of the demon Dhoomraksha.

-adorns anklets, bangles and armlets made of precious gems;
-wears garlands made of jasmine, champaka and lotuses around Her neck;
-has musical instruments such as veena and flute in Her hands; and
-sits as the brave soldier.

-is fierce as Bhadrakali, the auspicious Goddess of time,
-is Bhagala, Jwala mukhi, the fire faced;
-is Vaishnavi, the sister of Sri Maha Vishnu;
-is Brahmaani, the root of Brahmam;
-is the consort of Tripurantaka (Lord Shiva);
-is worshipped by the Devas;
-dazzles like a lit lamp;
-is Chamunda, the destroyer of the demons Chanda and Munda;
-protects Her devotees like a mother;
-is Dakshayani, the daughter of Daksha; and
-is Vallavi, the beloved Devi.

-adorns the half-moon on Her head;
-is Vaarahi, the destroyer of the demons Madhu and Kaitabha;
-is reverently worshiped by Sri Saraswathi and Sri Lakshmi;
-has destroyed the demons Malla and his group;
-is Maheshwari, the consort of Sri Maheshwara, the Great God; and
-is Ambika, the divine mother.

-is Gayatri, the absolute essence and core of the Pranava Mantra Om;
-is Omkari, the substance of Om;
-is ardently worshipped at feet by the Devas;
-has crow bar in Her Hand; and
-has destroyed the demon Daithyapa.

-is acclaimed in the holy scriptures;
-is Arya, the noble Goddess;
-is the greatest Goddess;
-is the creator / mother of all the beings from small ants to the Brahma;
-is the divine enticer of the universe;
-is the core and root of the Pancha Pranava Mantra;
-is the art of the intellects; and
-adorns garland.

The persons who sincerely and devoutly read and recite this Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ashtakam / Sri Ambashtakam shall be blessed with Her benevolent blissful gaze and abundant wealth.
