Sri Varaham temple is the temple ascribed to the worship of Sri Vishnu Murthy in Sri Varaha form. The temple is situated at a distance of a Kilometer from Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple.
It is believed that this temple is atleast 5000 years old. Some believe that Bhagwan Himself had built this temple.
There are many coconut trees around this temple.
We have to go down a few steps from the entrance to reach the sanctum. Soon on entering, we get to see the combination of banyan and neem trees as Sthala Vruksham.
Then we get to see the Dhwaja Sthambam and Bali Peedam. Dhwaja Sthambam is golden.
Beyond that, we get to the main sanctum of Sri Lakshmi Varaha Murthy.
Sri Varaha Shrine is circular in shape. The sanctum is facing west. Dwara Palaks are in the either side of the entrance.
Sri Varaha Murthy is sitting on Bhadra Peeta with four hands. He has Chakra and Shank in His upper hands. His consort Sri Maha Lakshmi is sitting on His left lap and His left lower hand is embracing Her. His right lower hand is in Abhaya Mudra.
The Urchava Murthy of Sri Varaha is made of Pancha Loka. The priests take the idol around the temple premises in the morning and the evening as part of Seeveli tradition.
The vigraha of Sri Anjaneya is covered in silver.
In the inner prakaram of the main sanctum, we get the darshan of Sri Ganapathy.
When we do perambulation of the temple, we get the darshan of Sri Naga, Sri Yakshi Amma and Sri Krishna in separate sanctums.
Sri Varaha Jayanthi in Meenam month and Panguni Brahmothsavam festival are the major festivals celebrated in this temple.
The temple is open from 05.00 A.M to 11.00 A.M and from 05.00 P.M to 08.00 P.M.
Laksharchana, Sandana Abhishekam, Kalasa Thirumanjanam and Garuda Vahana Seva are some of the rituals followed here.
It is believed that sincerely praying to Bhagwan Varaha here alleviates one of Sarpa doshas and that the devotee is blessed with good education.
The theertham of the temple is just outside the temple. The temple pond is one of the biggest ponds in Kerala. During Onam festival, boat races are conducted at this pond.
As per the tradition, the event named “Murajapam” is observed at Padmanabha Swamy Temple every six years. During that time, Vedic scholars recite Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedhas at the Padmanabha Swamy temple followed by Sahasra Nama Japam. The ritual is followed for 56 days. The scholars take holy dip at the Sri Varaham Temple pond prior to commencing the vedic chanting.
