Sri Parasara Rishi Jayanthi is the festival attributed to the birth anniversary of Sri Parasara Maharishi, the author of Parasara Dharma Samhitha, also known as Parasara Smruthi.
He is also the initiator of Vruksha Ayurveda, the botanical study on medicinal qualities of trees. He is also considered as the author of Sri Vishnu Puran.
He is considered to be the third member of the Rishi lineage in the Advaitha Guru Parampara.
Sri Parasara Maharishi is the grandson of Sri Vasishta Maharishi. He is also the father of Sri Ved Vyas.
Sri Parasara Maharishi is believed to have visited Bhishma when he laid on the bed of arrows during Maha Bharatha Yudh. Sri Parasara is one of the prominent and eminent Maharishis.
His birth anniversary is observed on the Shukla Paksha Prathipadha Tithi of Vaishaka month. It occurs on Saturday, 18th April 2026.
The temple dedicated for the worship of Sri Parasara Maharishi is at Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh. The lake near the temple is called Parashar Lake.
